20th of December 2022 is a memorable day that will forever linger in the hearts of sons and daughters of Amuye Faforiji, It was the approval of Dr. Adebayo Faforiji’s appointment as the new Alamuye of Amuye Faforiji in Atakunmosa East Local Government Area of Osun State by Governor Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke.
The Director of Chieftaincy, Basiru Oladipupo, in a letter on behalf of the Coordinating Director of the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Femi Ogundun, explained that the approval was made in accordance with Section 20, sub-section (1) of the Chief’s Law (cap.25) Laws of the Osun State.
The stool of Amuye Faforiji has been vacant since 20th June 2010 and after the process of selection, the kingmakers of the town unanimously selected Prince Adebayo Faforiji as the Alamuye elect of Amuye Faforiji on 6th September 2013.
Unfortunately, previous administrations refused to confirm his appointment as the monarch of the town until Senator Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke, did the needful in response to the yearning of the people of Amuye Faforiji over the years.
Let us take you back to memory lanes, Amuye Faforiji is a town in the southwestern part of Nigeria, just a few miles away from Ilesha and very close to Garage Olode in Ife South Local Government.
The town was founded in 1905 by a prince of the Owa Aponlese ruling house of Ilesa by name Adesanmi Faforiji who was the Likure of Erinburo from 1921 till he passed on in 1934.
Back to the Present time, Who is Oba Dr Adebayo Faforiji ?
Dr Bayo Faforiji was born on Friday 9th August, 1957 in Amuye-Faforiji. He had his primary education at St.Felix RCM Primary school, Amuye-Faforiji, Alaafia Institute, Mokola, Ibadan and St. Michael’s Primary School, Esinele, Oyo Alaafin.
He attended Our Lady and St Kizito Catholic Minor Seminary, Ede in affiliation with St. Charles Grammar School, Osogbo where he sat for his West Africa School Certificate Examination and passed with Division One in 1976.
He obtained a B.Sc Degree in Economics (Upper Division) 1981, Master of Philosophy Degree (M.Phil) with distinction in 1985, and a Doctor of Philosophy Degree (Ph.D) in Public Finance in 1992 from the Prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.
He completed his national youth service at the Kings Comprehensive College, Mkar, Gboko, Benue State in August 1982, and joined the services of the Obafemi Awolowo University as a Graduate Assistant in the Department of Economics in October of the same year.
After eleven years of meritorious service, Dr Faforiji retired voluntarily from the services of the Obafemi Awolowo University as Lecturer Grade 1 in September 1993 and was immediately appointed as a Management Consultant by Coopers and Lybrand Associates, Alausa, Lagos, where he worked and retired voluntarily in December 1996 to participate in partisan politics in Osun State.
He began his career in politics as the first elected Executive Chairman of the newly created Atakunmosa East Local Government in 1997(Grassroots Democratic Movement).
He was elected again for his second term in 1999(People’s Democratic Party), His landmark achievements during his two terms remain reference points till today in Atakunmosa East Local Government Area.
Dr Faforiji was appointed the Honourable Commissioner for Education in 2003 and served as a member of the Osun State University Implementation Committee, He was re-deployed to the Ministry of Works and Transport as Honourable Commissioner in June 2004 during former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola’s first term and in 2007 during his second term.
He ended this aspect of his service to the state when he resigned in January 2010 to contest in 2011 state election.
He was appointed as Chairman, State Coordination and Implementation Committee of the Community Service, Women and Youth Employment (CSWEP) division of SURE-P in 2012, He held this position till January 2015.
On July 7th 2018, he was elected as State Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) Osun State, a position he held until he resigned on October 2, 2019 to return to the PDP.
Dr Faforiji was installed as Alamuye of Amuye-Faforiji on the 30th of December 2022 and is at present a member of Atakunmosa East Local Government Chieftaincy Committee and Ijesa South Traditional Council. Oba (Dr) Adebayo Faforiji has visited many countries for education, religious activity, work and pleasure, including; The United Kingdom, U.S.A, France, Turkey, Germany,Poland, China, Belgium, Israel, Egypt, Germany, Poland, China, Hungary and United Arab Emirates.
Dr Faforiji is at present occupied with Bulk Paper Supply and Printing, Road Construction/Maintenance and Farming, He is married to Olori Adesola Faforiji Ph.D, and the union is blessed with children.
