The Management of Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife has justified the upward adjustment of the institution’s tuition and levies payable by students for next week academic session.
Public Relations Officer of the University, Mr Biodun Olanrewaju who spoke with LoveNigeria News on Thursday said the adjustment is imperative going by the prevailing economic situation in the country.
He said that since Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife operates within the geographical entity called Nigeria, the institution has to take such step to stay afloat.
Mr Olanrewaju who said the institution’s senate did not breach the law or flout federal government’s directive by jerking up the amount now payable by students challenged any individual or body to report OAU Ile Ife to any of the federal government agencies.
According to the P.R.O, the institution’s senate is open to dialogue and discussion on the latest development
Meanwhile The Students Union Government of Institution has rejected the increase in the amount of money students of the institution would have to pay as from next session.
Speaking with LoveNigeria News in a separate interview, President of the Students Union, Comrade Abbas Akinremi Ojo said the report of sudden increase in tutions and levies by the management is shocking and appalling.
He said students leaders have started meeting and mobilizing against what he described as arbitrary increase
According to him there will be a congress today to discuss the next line of action.
