Celebrating an exceptionally committed, hardworking, passionate Lawyer and public servant, Chief (Mrs) Oluwaremilekun Olowu (nee Komolafe) on her remarkable journey and the countless contributions she has made to the society.
A peep into her life reveals that Chief (Mrs) Oluwaremilekun Olowu (nee Komolafe) is from Ilesa East Local Government Area of Osun State
On completing her primary at St. Peter’s Anglican School, Isona, Ilesa and secondary education at Anglican Girls Grammar School, Abeokuta from 1964- 1967, she proceeded to the Prestigious University of Ife, Ile-Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) where she studied law between 1968 and 1972. Thereafter, she attended the Nigerian Law School in 1973 to qualify as a solicitor and advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria. She was at Crownfield University, UK (1981) and Singapore Aviation Academy (2000) for programmes in Public Administration and Disaster Management respectively.
She started her civil service career as a Public State Counsel in the Federal Ministry of Justice in July 1973 and steadily rose up through the ranks.
She handled sensitive law related assignments in the Justice Ministry before she was posted to Federal Ministry of Aviation in 1982. While there, she shouldered sensitive responsibility as a Legal Adviser on both local and international laws on the Aviation Industry including being appointed Raporteur in 1993 to the African Civil Aviation Commission for a period of three (3) years.
She led various Nigerian delegations between 1983 and 1993 to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
She was posted to the National Emergency Relief Agency (NERA) in 1996 as a Director. As a result of determination and competent administrative leadership, the department was transformed from doling reliefs during emergencies to a full-fledged Agency, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) .
She served as the pioneer Director-General retiring in 2002.
The Agency touched the lives of millions of traumatized, vulnerable and less privileged Nigerians leading operations to numerous communal clashes.
The Lagos ammunition explosion in Ikeja cantonment and the Kano plane crash were notable emergencies handled during her tenure
She is an active member of Nigerian Bar Association International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA)
Her Hobbies include travelling, reading, listening to music, football .
