Our Renewed Hope Agenda Repositioning Nigeria As Global Investment Hub – Vice President Shettima

Vice President Kashim Shettima has emphasized that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda is a transformative policy aimed at positioning Nigeria as a prime global investment destination saying the agenda focuses on democracy, development, demographics, and diaspora engagement, signaling that Nigeria is prepared to conduct business on a global scale.

Speaking at a High-level Dialogue on Delivering the Renewed Hope Agenda themed “Nigeria’s Global Ambitions: From Hope to Reality” in Abuja, VP Shettima highlighted the administration’s ambitious roadmap. He noted President Tinubu’s dedication to bold reforms and strategic partnerships to rejuvenate the economy and enhance security.

“Our vision for the nation has never been in doubt. We are here because of our place in a world of opportunities—a world that can’t afford to neglect or underestimate our place. The Renewed Hope Agenda is a statement of commitment, a covenant between us and the people,” Shettima stated.

Central to the administration’s foreign policy, dubbed the ‘Tinubu Doctrine,’ is the ‘4-D Diplomacy Strategy’ focusing on democracy, economic development, demographic potential, and diaspora engagement. Shettima acknowledged the vital role of the diaspora, noting their $168 billion in remittances from 2015 to 2022, which surpassed Overseas Development Assistance. He announced a forthcoming $10 billion Diaspora Fund aimed at boosting national development plans through increased forex inflows.

On economic interventions, Shettima highlighted a ₦75 billion initiative for the manufacturing sector and the Renewed Hope Infrastructure Development Fund to enhance infrastructure across key sectors. Addressing security, he affirmed the administration’s commitment to safeguarding lives and properties through regional and national strategies.

UN Deputy Secretary-General, Hajiya Amina Mohammed, praised the progress in Nigeria under the Tinubu administration, citing economic reforms and proactive security measures, including the recent African counter-terrorism meeting. She also highlighted initiatives like the digital literacy program and broadband infrastructure expansion.

British High Commissioner Dr. Richard Montgomery expressed the UK’s support for the Renewed Hope Agenda, commending President Tinubu’s focus on transparency and accountability. He reaffirmed the UK’s backing of Nigeria’s security strategies.

Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Doris Nkiruka Uzoka-Anite, appreciated the participants’ involvement in advancing Nigeria’s economic agenda. Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, reflected on the past year’s achievements and emphasized the role of international cooperation in fulfilling the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Minister of Budget and National Planning, Alhaji Atiku Bagudu, highlighted the administration’s commitment to international cooperation, underscoring its alignment with Nigeria’s development plans. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, represented by Mr. Dapo Oyewole, reiterated Nigeria’s dedication to mutually beneficial global partnerships.

Bank of Industry Managing Director, Dr. Olasupo Olusi, praised the transformative power of strategic partnerships under the Tinubu administration.

The event was attended by high-level officials, including Deputy Chief of Staff to the President (Office of the Vice President), Senator Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia; Minister of Women Affairs, Mrs. Uju Kennedy Ohaneye; EU Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Amb. Samuel Isopi; and senior representatives from the World Bank and Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission.
